Low-Power Wide-Area Networks: Comparison of LoRaWAN and NB-IoT Performance

چکیده
Low-power wide-area networks (LPWANs) have become an important enabler for the Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity. Application domains, such as smart cities, agriculture, intelligent logistics, and transportation, require communication technologies that combine long transmission ranges energy efficiency. Recent future trends make long-range network (LoRaWAN) narrowband-IoT (NB-IoT) most prospective drivers IoT business. In this article, after discussing main features two technologies, we carry out a fair quantitative comparison between two, investigating different performance indicators, in order to guide designers selection appropriate technology, depending on application requirements.

Key Resynchronizing in Low Power Wide Area Networks
LPWANs are a class of technologies that have very low power consumption and high range of communication. Along with its various advantages, these technologies also have many limitations, such as low bandwidth, connectionless transmission and low processing power, which has challenged encryption methods in this technologies. One of the most important of these challenges is encryption. The very s...
متن کاملLow Power Wide Area Networks (LPWANs) for Internet of Things (IoT) Applications: Research Challenges and Future Trends
Internet of things (IoT) changes significantly the requirements for connectivity, mainly with regards to long battery life, low device cost, low deployment cost, extended coverage and support for a massive number of devices. Driven from these requirements, several different cellular and non-cellular low power wide area network (LPWAN) solutions are emerging and competing for IoT business and th...
متن کاملTime-frequency ALOHA-like random access: A scalability study of Low-Power Wide-Area Networks for IoT using stochastic geometry
In wireless networks, interferences between transmissions are modelled either in time or frequency domain. In this article, we jointly analyze interferences in the timefrequency domain using a stochastic geometry model assuming the total time-frequency resources to be a two-dimensional plane and transmissions from Internet of Things (IoT) devices timefrequency patterns on this plane. To evaluat...
متن کاملPower Differential based Wide Area Protection
Current differential based wide area protection (WAP) has recently been proposed as a technique to increase the reliability of protection systems. It increases system stability and can prevent large contingencies such as cascading outages and blackouts. This paper describes how power differential protection (PDP) can be used within a WAP and shows that the algorithm operates correctly for a...
متن کاملLPWA Technology Security Comparison A White Paper from Franklin Heath Ltd
In this report we compare and contrast the security features of five of the latest Low-Power Wide Area (LPWA) network technologies: LTE-M, NB-IoT, EC-GSM-IoT, LoRaWAN and Sigfox. The security features of each technology are laid out in a comparison table, in which some non-security features are also listed, to illustrate that security may not be the deciding factor when choosing a LPWA technology.
